61st Primetime Emmy Winners

Neil Patrick Harris hosted the 61st Primetime Emmy Awards, whose winners might be best described as repeats for most of the major categories. 30 Rock won its third consecutive Outstanding Comedy Emmy, while its leading man, Alec Baldwin, took home his second Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series award in as many years.
AMC’s Mad Men won the Outstanding Drama Series Emmy in 2008, and repeated its success this year. Bryan Cranston, who stars on Breaking Bad, won his second Lead Actor in a Drama Emmy.
Comedy Central’s The Daily Show has won the Outstanding Variety Show award every year since 2003, Sunday, the series earned its seventh Emmy in the category. Glen Close won her second Lead Actress in a Drama Series Emmy for her role in FX's Damages.
Showtime’s Toni Collette took home the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her role in The United States of Tara. This is the first time a Showtime star has won in the Lead Actress category, and marks the first acting award for Showtime since Blythe Danner won Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 2006 for her role in Huff.
Two and a Half Men’s Jon Cryer won Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy, while the now canceled Pushing Daisies’ Kristin Chenoweth won Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy. Lost’s Michael Emerson won for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series and 24’s Cherry Jones won Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.
The Amazing Race won its seventh consecutive Emmy.

I think Bryan Cranston deserved to win but I would have liked to see Michael C. Hall finally get it. I wasn't crazy about the second season of Damages but Glenn Close was phenomenal. I really wished Chi McBride had been nominated and while I love Michael Emerson I would have been over the moon if Aaron Paul had won.

As a viewer of both 30 Rock and The Big Bang Theory, I do not know how Alec Baldwin beat Jim Parsons for Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. Jim Parsons was absolutely phenomenal as Sheldon Cooper, and the episode he submitted was his best of the entire season (while the episode Alec Baldwin submitted wasn't even that spectacular, IMO)
Thought NPH did an excellent job of hosting, but as for the winners, it felt like a very ho-hum kind of evening. So many repeat winners...

ConqueringBlue, while I think Alec is perfection on 30 Rock the Emmys do tend to lean towards giving movie actors awards for their small screen work.
