V Slithers to Ratings Success for ABC

Twenty-five years later and TV watchers still can't get enough of those slimy, reptilian beings, with faux human skin, known as Visitors, or V for short. According to Variety, ABC's reboot of the classic, 80's miniseries debuted at No. 1 in demos Tuesday night. Overall, the supernatural sudser was watched by 14. 3 million people.
I tuned in, and while sci fi isn't usually my cup of vodka and lemonade, the first V made such a frightening impression on my young psyche,—what with all the lizard people eating rats and fetch red leather outfits— I had to check out the pilot of the new version, and guess what? I loved it! The premiere was sexy, suspenseful and chock full of soapy conflict and shocking twists.
The update boasts a promising cast, including: Lost and Loving vet Elizabeth Mitchell as razor sharp, FBI agent Erica Evans, whose son Tyler (Logan Huffman) is quickly seduced by the V; Party of Five's Scott Wolf, taking a decidedly un-Bailey turn as Chad Decker, a smarmy, journalist who allows his ambition to gain exclusive access to the V to compromise his ethics; Joel Gretsch— known to sci fi geeks for his turn in The 4400— as the intriguing, Father Jack Landry, a skeptical priest who doesn't believe the V are as peace-loving as they profess; film star Morris Chestnut (Boyz In Da Hood) and Port Charles alum Lourdes Benedicto, who play Ryan Nichols and Valerie Stevens, a couple caught up in the mix, as lines become drawn between V and humans (Since one of them is hiding a shocking secret!) and lastly Brazillian beauty, Morena Baccarin as Anna, the manipulative and eerily-seductive leader of the V.
V has definitely found a spot on my DVR this season. How about you guys?

I can't wait to watch it. I forgot to set my DVR so now I have to wait and watch it on Saturday when ABC.com puts the episode up...not happy about the delay. They used to post shows next day. I've heard amazing things about it though.

Thought it was okay, what I don't like about these remakes it that they don't have any of the original characters.
I liked how they mocked universal health care; how the media went gaga over the aliens, it's kind of mocking the president. The original is the best liked the music and special effects; herd they were making a movie version too; it was shock when they would eat live animals whole, peta won't like that and a teen girl had a lizard baby, that was quite a shocker back then. Can't do anything to shock people today. The original is on hulu.com; there are some eerie similarities on today's problems, like when the bad guy alien tells his commander, are troops are dying while your sitting on your ass waiting to make a decision to send more troops; sound familiar.

Funny how when Natalie Maines "mocked the president" she got death threats and people running over her CDs in Shreveport, but it's cute now. What happened to all the "respect the office even if you don't respect the man" rhetoric liberals had to endure when Bush was in office? The universal health care digs were the only part I didn't like.

I recorded it, but haven't been able to watch it yet. I love sci-fi shows, so this looks like something that I'll love! So far, I've read more good reviews than bad. I'll probably watch it this weekend.

Have watched it and I liked but but I didn't love it. IDK it's hard for me this season to really get hooked by a new show. Thought it was gonna happen with FlashForward, but it didn't. Also didn't happen with V yet.
But man, Scott Wolf got old!!! I was shocked. Never thought of him becoming a "sugar daddy" one day. But here we are. LOL

The odd part about this is that I watched the original miniseries and I was confused by the plots. Sure I was really young, but I was still confused by the plots. I love Sci-fi shows and movies, I give it a chance.

I floved the original so of course I was going to try and give this a look. I was ok with the debut, a lot to digest in the first epi. I will watch but I don't think I will be all gaga over it like I was the original, especially since after watching the original on SyFy this past weekend reminded me of my love for Michael Ironside's Tyler

This was utter crap. Growing up watching the original mini-series, part 1 and 2, and the crappy didn't last to long tv show, this was an utter failure in my eyes. I'll stick to the original, which is awesome. People go out and rent the two orignal mini-series, that is some great sci-fi.

I've come to the realization that absolutely nothing can be as good as it was in the 80's, partly because of nostalgia, and partly because so much of pop culture originated there, but I think this update is off to a good start. I know sometimes I over-romanticize the 80's, but we weren't as jaded then, nor did we have 500 channels, CGI, etc. I am giving it a thumb's up, although if the political stuff continues to skew right, I will probably not be happy. LOL

I just recently watched the original miniseries and it really was THAT good. It scared the crap out of me when I was a little girl but now I saw all the different layers that it had which I didn't relaize when I was just 8 or so.
I haven't seen the new one, I will check it out but the promo didn't impress me. Also, I don't like the girl they have that is playing the "Diana" character based on the promo (I know maybe it is premature but original Diana was freaking awesome)

The original miniseries ("V") was all kinds of awesome, while its sequel ("V: The Final Battle") was entertaining but far less ambitious in terms of scope & themes, though it did have one hell of an abortion debate. The less said about the shitty "V: the Series" the better.
As for the "universal health care" comment, I think both the crazy wingnuts and the lefties have it all wrong thinking it's some kind of anti-Obama slam. I didn't see anything overtly political about it one way or the other. I thought it was a clever — if heavy handed — way to work in a) a theme of universal health care CLEARLY established in the original miniseries a quarter century ago and b) poke fun using current terminology. It was a "ba-dum-dum" moment, not a commercial for Fox News. Nothing more, nothing less.
I'm not the only one who thinks this "V is Anti-Obama" stuff is overblowwn:

I guess I love the original more because as a kid it stirred my imagination but I hate when these networks recreate these great originals and turned them into some overhyped, computer generated crap. Some originals should be left as such.

I loved V! I thought it was smart with lots of allegorical relations to today's problems. It's probably taken Glee's place as my favourite new show of the year. I can't wait for the next episode!
