TV Recap: Gossip Girl, The Big Bang Theory, Castle and Heroes

I just love November sweeps. The networks pull out all the stops to pull in viewers' eyeballs to spike advertising rates. Some shows pull it off, others don't. It gives the old DVR quite the work out! This week I tuned in for Gossip Girl, Castle, The Big Bang Theory and Heroes.

Gossip Girl : “They Shoot Humphreys, Don’t They”
Monday’s episode was the big “threesome” episode involving Dan, Vanessa and Olivia. Could it have been more boring? Kermit, Miss Piggy and Fozzie have more chemistry than those three. While I’ve enjoyed Hilary Duff’s run on Gossip Girl, involving Vanessa in anything is a recipe for boredom. They should just kill the character off and be done with it.
I thoroughly enjoyed Jenny one-upping Blair and Eric. The Jenny storyline has seemed off all season, but now that Eric has turned on her things are going to get very, very interesting. The best part of the episode was having Nate come to Jenny’s rescue. After Chuck and Blair, Jenny and Nate are Gossip Girl’s money couple. Maybe one of these days they’ll figure that out.
Anyone else rooting for a Carter/Serena/Tripp triangle? I’m enjoying Serena’s romantic dalliances more this season than any of the previous season.
Next Week: Dan deals with the “reality” of the threesome.

Heroes: “Shadowboxing”
I used to love this show, but with each passing week a little more of my enjoyment dies. Every time I delete an episode off my DVR I find myself seriously considering deleting Heroes for good.
Monday’s episode found Matt battling Sylar for control of his body, with both one-upping the other throughout the hour. It ended with Matt taking one for the team and having the police shoot him/Sylar. Unfortunately, Matt’s well-intentioned sacrifice and the cliffhanger for next week were ruined by the NBC promo department. Damn them. Of course, it’s not like the show is going to actually get rid of Sylar’s essence with something as mundane as a police shoot out, but did they have to ruin a reason to watch next week?
Speaking of next week’s promos, Sylar’s body, with Nathan’s looks and memories, left the carnival. In the promo we see him confronting his “brother” Peter.
Meanwhile, the "Claire goes to college story" had Noah (HRM) coming to his daughter’s rescue with help from The Haitian. Here’s a question I have for the Heroes writers and about superhero/mutant stereotypes in general: Why do the villains almost always accepts who they are, while the good guys are always trying to be “normal?” Yes, Claire has finally accepted who she is, but trying to live a normal life as a college student when she’s smack dab in the middle of the mutant gene pool is a recipe for disaster.
Robert Knepper as a villain is dynamite on paper. Very few do creepy as well as he does. However, Samuel, the character the show has created for him leaves a lot to be desired. Knepper's character and his carnival co-horts are just the latest of the "mutant of the story arc" and honestly I think its getting old.
Next Week: "Chapter Nine Brother's Keeper'"

I don't regularly watch Gossip Girl but I wanted to see the threesome. Wasn't all that interesting. Everyone says that the next episode is when they show the sexier scenes via flashback. And as for Heroes, it hasn't really been worth watching since season 2. It still has it's moments but it can't seem to keep any momentum.

I would love a Carter/tripp/Serena triangle on Gossip Girl, great idea, Luke. The rest of GG bores me quite frankly.
Is Heroes still on?
I love the Big Bang theory, it truly is the best comedy on tv.
I don't watch Castle but I love Nathan Fillion so thanks for the pics of him.

I am HATING "Gossip Girl" this season. All of the characters who graduated last year should be in college and enrolled in THE SAME COLLEGE. It should be an elite, private college, as well. Blair and her minions from previous seasons should be working their ass off to fit in with a snooty sorority, which, someday, Blair will be running. Chuck and Nate should be in a frat that's pitted against Dan's frat. Vanessa shouldn't be on my screen as much as she has been. I feel like the writers have Vanessa playing Serena and Serena playing Vanessa. And Gossip Girl, the narrator, is totally irrelevant. I miss the days when Kristin Bell seemed like an actual character. FIX THIS MESS! A threesome with three boring characters does nothing for me.

Oh Luke I couldn't agree more with you about Nate and Jenny. But since their "break-up" last season this was like the second scene they had together. Don't know if the producers will figure it out right in time. Even his rescue this week was very short handled. But you're right - besides Chuck and Blair that is "GG"s money couple.
Would love to see a triangle between Trip/Serena/Carter. Oh gosh, I miss Carter!!!
As for the 3some, it was boring as hell. And who wonders with those three involved. Come on Vanessa really has to be everywhere this season, hasn't she!? They should let her die! That would maybe at least make for some good storyline involving her character.

Would it make everyone happy if Vanessa gave Dan and Olivia crabs? Now that would be surprising. lol

I'm sorry but it's bad enough they have Taylor dressing like a hooker on Halloween all the time. They don't need to have her hooking up with a grown man on this show. Poor Chase probably felt he needed to register as a sex offender last season when he had to kiss her.
I've stopped watching Gossip Girl but if they show more Jenny vs. Eric with Blair thrown in I might start watching again.
And Luke, you and me are just going to have to fight. You can't talk about my NBC comedies like that.

Bring it on Season! LOL Those NBC comedies are so over rated when the bubble of hype around them bursts NBC's peacock is going to molt all its tail feathers and will be walking around with a naked tail nub. NBC will never reclaim its glory with stuff like that. Jamey is right. NBC needs to get back to what it used to do best, comedies that appeal to broad audiences.
Every time I watch them I sit there thinking to myself: "everyone" says they are funny, this is supposed to be funny, I know this is funny, but I have yet to find anything remotely funny about 30 Rock, The Office or their clones.
I'd be willing to bet that if 30 Rock wasn't about the entertainment industry the entertainment industry wouldn't give it so many kudos and awards.
Watching The Office is like watching a work place night mare come true. Every time Steve Carell makes an asinine comment or does something completely stupid it is like finger nails on a chalk board.
Sorry Season and Gossip Gir tool. I know you both love these shows, but I just don't. Then again, I never understood the appeal of Seinfeld either. lol

Luke, I agree with you--The Big Bang Theory is the best comedy on tv by far. Thought it was funny that even Raj's parents and Howard's mother added to Sheldon's issues with their arguements.
I watch Castle and enjoy it more and more each week. You are so right about the work dynamic. I liked that the Captain had more to do this week. When he totally stood up for his people was great. Loved Castle's line right after "that was awesome", I have to agree.
I still watch Heroes but it is not as enjoyable as it was the first two seasons.

i love the big bang theory. its one of the best shows on tv, all genres included. the office used to be funny but not as much anymore. GG doesn't interest me anymore and i quit watching heroes mid season 3. that show is just awful now.

OMG, I think I'm gonna be ill.
As for GG, poor Vanessa - they write the character like she's this generation's Ted McGinley, LOL.

Luke, I get that it's not everyone's cup of tea but I like Community and I think Parks and Recreation, which has grown by leaps and bounds this season, is the best comedy on NBC right now. 30 Rock can be very uneven at times and I don't watch The Office, the original British version is far better.
I agree with you on Seinfeld. I thought the show was funny but I don't get the iconic status that it achieved.

The british office had me rolling on the floor laughing, the american one I might smile once in a while.
