Syfy has picked up Stargate Universe and Sanctuary for their first and third seasons respectively, according to The Live Feed. Both series, which have anchored Syfy's Friday lineup this fall, have been decent, but not great this season. Critics' gripes that Stargate Universe feels more like a Battlestar Galactica knockoff than a member of the Stargate franchise isn't without merit. Universe also suffers from an intense need of an external "alien" threat to liven things up. Character development and internal SG conflicts are great, but even Battlestar Galactica–which excelled in both areas–knew how to incorporate battling the Cylons and human uprisings into their storylines.
